Looming Security Crisis in Imo and Kogi Elections Worries Labour Party Leader Abure

In a recent interview on Channels Television’s People’s Townhall on Election Security, Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), expressed grave concerns regarding the upcoming governorship elections in Imo and Kogi States. The primary issue plaguing the party and its candidates is the alarming level of insecurity in these two states.

Abure revealed that the LP's offices in Imo and Kogi have been subject to multiple attacks by unknown gunmen throughout their election campaigns. He went as far as alleging that some of these attackers were accompanied by security agencies, raising questions about the involvement of authorities in these incidents.

When asked about Bayelsa State, Abure's response was more reassuring. He stated that the party is not as concerned about Bayelsa because it has not experienced the same high level of insecurity as Imo and Kogi.

In short, the Labour Party's major apprehension leading up to the governorship elections on November 11, 2023, is the pervasive insecurity in Imo and Kogi, which has manifested through attacks on their offices. This situation has raised serious doubts about the safety of lives and property in these states, making them the primary focus of the party's worries.
