On Saturday night, Hamas released a second group of 17 hostages, including 13 Israelis and four Thai nationals, who had been held captive in Gaza since being kidnapped by Hamas militants in the October 7 terror attack on Israel. The release was part of the short-term cease-fire agreement brokered by the U.S., Qatar, and Egypt. In exchange, another 39 Palestinian women and children jailed in Israel were also freed. Among those released were seven Israeli children ranging in age from 3 to 16, and six Israeli women ranging in age from 18 to 67. The youngest hostage released was three-year-old Yahel Shoham, who was freed with her mother and brother, although her father remains a hostage. The released hostages were taken by Red Cross ambulances from Gaza into Egypt, where they underwent initial medical checks. They were then taken to the Kerem Shalom crossing with Israel and, from there, transferred to Israeli hospitals for treatment and monitoring. The Palestinian prisoners were moved to Ofer Prison in the West Bank for medical checks by the Israel Prison Service.
